In a thrilling quest for glory in the high-octane world of MotoGP, Diogo Moreira has set his sights on a monumental achievement: becoming the Rookie of the Year. With the fierce competition posed by fellow newcomer Toprak Razgatlioglu, Moreira is determined to carve out his place among the elite in motorcycle racing. The Brazilian sensation, who ascended from the ranks of Moto2 champions, is ready to unleash his talents on the international stage after realizing a lifelong dream by securing his spot in the prestigious category.
Leaving his home in Brazil at just 13 years old, Moreira embarked on a journey that would see him navigate the challenging landscape of European motorsport. His meteoric rise through the ranks of promotional championships and the JuniorGP culminated in a victorious entry into the Moto3 World Championship in 2022, where he claimed his first win just a year later. The 2024 season saw him transition to Moto2, where he ultimately claimed the world title in 2025, showcasing a remarkable end to the season that solidified his status as a rising star.
Moreira’s MotoGP debut at the Thailand Grand Prix was nothing short of impressive, as he finished both the Sprint and the main race in 13th place, marking the beginning of his points-scoring journey. His performances have set the stage for a promising career ahead, and as he prepares to face the roaring crowds in Brazil, he reflects on the whirlwind of experiences that have defined his entry into the sport.
In an exclusive interview, Moreira expressed his thoughts on his transition to MotoGP, stating, “Before anything, I’d say it was very different. The jump from Moto2 to MotoGP is enormous. Over the weekend, I had so much more to do: events, interviews… The weekend flies by. MotoGP is the premier category; everything revolves around it and everything goes much faster. Honestly, I’m very happy. It was a positive weekend. There is no pressure this year, so for now, we’re heading in the right direction.”
Revisiting his journey from Brazil to Europe, Moreira shared the sacrifices he made to pursue his passion: “I left a lot behind to achieve the dream of my life. This has always been my goal. Leaving my family, friends, and life in Brazil to come to Europe was a conscious choice. When you pursue such a grand dream, everything becomes easier. And in the end, I’d say it has gone quite well for us.”
Moreira’s partnership with Estrella Galicia 0,0 has been a cornerstone of his career, and he reflected on this vital support: “If I remember correctly, I started with them in 2017, even though an agreement existed in Brazil back in 2015. So it’s been about ten years. More than a sponsor, it’s a family. I’ve always felt very comfortable with them, and it motivates me to keep progressing. I hope we can continue together for a long time.”
Having not only completed his races in Thailand but also scoring his first points, Moreira was eager to gauge his performance against seasoned competitors. “After so many days of testing in Malaysia and Thailand, I was really looking forward to racing. What struck me the most was that from Friday to Sunday, everyone is at full throttle. These are the best riders in the world; they already master the bike and the circuit. The goal was to avoid crashes and log laps. The Sunday race really helped me follow the other riders and better understand the direction to take. I finished very satisfied, as did the team. Overall, it was very positive.”
As the MotoGP returns to Brazil, the excitement is palpable. Moreira exclaims, “For months now, everyone has been talking about this event in Brazil. I’ve always dreamed of racing in MotoGP here, and the Brazilian fans are extremely enthusiastic. We’ve already seen that it’s sold out; there are no more tickets. Let’s see how it goes; it’s only the second race of the year. We still need to learn about the bike and the category, but I think we can do great things.”
Looking ahead, Moreira remains focused on his objectives for the season. “We need to stay calm. The entire season is there to learn and enjoy this bike. The goal is to finish as Rookie of the Year. We achieved it in Moto3 and Moto2, so MotoGP is the final frontier to conquer. Everything else will come with a lot of hard work.”
As the roar of engines fills the air, Diogo Moreira stands on the cusp of a thrilling MotoGP journey, ready to etch his name in the annals of racing history.
