Katherine Legge is set to make history by attempting the grueling “Double” on Memorial Day weekend, tackling both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on May 24. The British racer will pilot the No. 11 Chevrolet for HMD Motorsports with AJ Foyt Racing in her fifth Indy 500 start at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She’ll then jump into the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports to compete in the 67th running of NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway—all in the same day.
This ambitious feat makes Legge the first woman to take on the brutal 1,100-mile challenge of running two major races back-to-back. At 45 years old, she’s also the oldest driver and the first non-American to attempt the “Double.” Only five drivers in history have tried this endurance test before her: John Andretti, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, and Kyle Larson, the most recent to complete the punishing schedule.
In a statement, Legge captured the magnitude of the challenge. “Very few drivers ever get the opportunity to attempt ‘The Double,’ and I do not take that opportunity lightly. This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits, betting on yourself, taking risks and trying to do something unique. I am so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing in what this moment represents and for building a community around it.”
Legge’s partnership with e.l.f. Cosmetics is pivotal, providing backing for both races. The brand has supported her 2024 Indy 500 campaign and her part-time NASCAR schedule in 2025. Reflecting on the sponsorship, she told USA TODAY Sports, “They’ve changed the face of racing for me. This is really special, because I never felt like you can be authentically you as a woman in racing and be successful. I was always trying to just fit in. Typically, race car sponsors and partners don't necessarily speak to the women. It makes things like doing The Double possible for me, because they believe in me.”
Legge’s resume spans multiple top-tier series, including NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula E, and the IMSA SportsCar Championship, establishing her as one of the most versatile female drivers in motorsport history. Her attempt to conquer both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day adds a new chapter to her trailblazing career and raises the stakes for what women can achieve in racing’s toughest arenas. The motorsport world will be watching May 24 as Legge pushes the limits of endurance, speed, and history.
