Aprilia’s Rivola sets ground rules for Bezzecchi and Martin’s title fight

Aprilia’s MotoGP future is shaping up as a fierce showdown between teammates Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi, with the factory boss setting a clear boundary: mutual respect is non-negotiable. After Martin edged out Bezzecchi by a single point following his win at the French Grand Prix, the Italian manufacturer looks set to dominate the 2026 title fight, pitting its two top riders against each other in a high-stakes battle.

Speaking at Le Mans, Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola emphasized the importance of discipline within the team. “The simple rule is that they must respect each other,” Rivola said. “If they will do that, there will be no problem. The ones who have the most luck will make it. If they don’t do that, then I will need to do my job and remind them that they have to respect each other.” The two riders have previously clashed in the lower categories, but Rivola remains confident the dynamic will hold. “I get angry when there’s no respect between the people. This is not the case so far,” he added.

Despite Aprilia’s commanding 1-2-3 finish at the French GP, Rivola cautioned against declaring his team the outright favorite just yet. Speaking to Sky Italy, he noted the narrow margins separating other contenders: “If we look at the gaps between Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio, we're really talking about a couple of seconds, so over the course of a race, it's nothing.” He also pointed out that qualifying did not feature a clean sweep by Aprilia, signaling that competition remains fierce.

Still, the top three finishers being Aprilias signals a technical edge. Rivola praised the professionalism of both Martin and Bezzecchi, highlighting their racecraft and tire management. “With 10 laps to go, Ai Ogura is probably one of the strongest riders around today in terms of managing used tyres, and he also has great overtaking ability, which is a great trait,” Rivola said, underscoring that Aprilia’s strength isn’t guaranteed to secure victory without continued focus and respect within the team.

As the 2026 season looms, the unfolding rivalry between Martin and Bezzecchi promises to be a defining MotoGP storyline, anchored by Aprilia’s insistence on respect as the foundation for championship success. With the factory team holding the technical advantage and two elite riders locked in a tight points race, every race will test this “simple rule” and the limits of their rivalry.
