Max Verstappen has made it abundantly clear: he has no intention of stepping into the role of team principal in Formula 1. The reigning champion of the world, known for his fierce competitive spirit and unparalleled driving skills, has not only dominated the F1 circuit but also shown his love for motorsport in its entirety. While the adrenaline-fueled world of F1 is at the core of his ambitions, Verstappen’s passion extends far beyond the racetrack, as evidenced by his recent triumph at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, where he fulfilled a lifelong dream of racing on the iconic Nordschleife.
This year, Verstappen has taken strides to cement his legacy in motorsport by establishing his own GT racing team, Verstappen.com Racing. His foray into the managerial side of the sport has raised questions about his future ambitions. However, when it comes to F1, the Dutch sensation is unequivocal. In a revealing interview with the Dutch website Formule1.nl, he firmly stated, “I team principal? I will not become one of them in F1. I don’t want to, really.”
Verstappen’s rationale behind this decision is straightforward and pragmatic. He elaborated, “When you are the team principal of an F1 team, you have to live in England or Italy, and I do not want to do that.” His refusal to entertain the notion of relocating emphasizes his desire for a more balanced lifestyle, one that does not require the relentless commitment and pressure associated with managing an F1 team. He further expressed, “It’s true, these are practical objections, but I think that such a role is way too demanding, definitely too much. It’s not what I enjoy doing nor what I aspire to.”
While Verstappen may be closing the door on a future in F1 management, the possibility of taking on a similar role in a different racing series remains open. Perhaps, in a distant future after he has hung up his helmet, a less politically charged environment could tempt him back into a leadership position. Until then, fans can rest assured that Verstappen will continue to focus on what he does best: driving at the highest level and thrilling audiences worldwide.
