Willi Weber, the esteemed former manager of Formula One icon Michael Schumacher, is reeling in disbelief after a harrowing incident transformed his tranquil life into a nightmare. The 83-year-old was brutally robbed in his own villa in Stuttgart, Germany, leaving him shaken and battered. Weber, who stood by Schumacher throughout his legendary racing career, found himself at the mercy of a trio of masked assailants who stormed his home with violence and intimidation.
According to reports from Bild, the terrifying encounter unfolded when Weber, his wife, and a housekeeper were ambushed and forcibly restrained at gunpoint. The robbers, armed with weapons that instilled sheer terror, tied them to chairs and subjected Weber to a brutal beating that resulted in visible injuries: a black eye, bruises on his forehead, and a cut on his nose. The relentless thugs demanded the code to a safe within the villa, and after enduring a horrific assault, Weber complied, leading to a significant loss.
The thieves made off with a cache of valuables, including an astounding collection of watches worth hundreds of thousands of euros. Among the stolen items was a Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph 5980 valued at over €100,000, alongside a Rolex Day-Date II Platinum priced at €50,000 and an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore worth €25,000. These watches were not merely accessories for Weber; they held immense sentimental value, as he once expressed a desire for a “coffin with drawers” to keep them as cherished mementos after his passing.
After enduring more than two agonizing hours in captivity, Weber managed to break free from his restraints and summon the police. Although he received medical attention at the scene, he did not require hospitalization, while his wife and housekeeper sustained only minor injuries from the ordeal. The aftermath left Weber feeling vulnerable, prompting him to hire bodyguards for protection.
In a candid revelation to Bild, Weber recounted the traumatic experience: “There were three of them. I was having dinner. They wanted the code for the safe. I refused to give it to them and then they kept punching me in the face.” The shock of the incident reverberated through his words as he added, “The police are here and talking to me. I feel terrible. I’m in complete shock.”
Weber’s daughter swiftly arrived at the scene to provide support, underscoring the familial bonds that remain unbroken even in the wake of such chaos. He expressed his disbelief at how calculated the robbery appeared, stating, “They knew what they were doing. Everything is gone! Even my watches. I must have been spied on for weeks. They came in and knew everything.”
Despite speculation that his public announcement regarding the sale of his house might have made him a target, Weber firmly rejected such notions. “No! Surely it must be possible to sell a house in this country without being robbed. What kind of country do we live in if you’re no longer safe in your own home?”
As the investigation unfolds, German police are meticulously reviewing video footage of the robbery in hopes of identifying the criminals responsible for this shocking breach of safety. Weber’s traumatic experience serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can lurk even in the sanctity of one’s home, leaving many to question the true state of security in today’s world.
