Fernando Alonso has delivered a firm prediction that Aston Martin will emerge significantly stronger in 2027, despite the team's faltering start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. The Aston Martin-Honda partnership has struggled with pace and reliability issues, hampering their ability to finish races and score points. At the Miami Grand Prix, both cars crossed the finish line for the first time this year, yet the team remained outside the points-paying positions, underscoring the uphill battle they face.
Alonso, now navigating one of the toughest periods of his career with Aston Martin, remains resolute about the future. “100%, I have no doubt. If not, we go backwards,” he told media including RacingNews365 when asked if next year’s car will be more competitive. The team principal also voiced confidence that the current car holds potential to challenge at the front once the kinks are ironed out. Alonso emphasized that ongoing improvements through the season, including fixes to the power unit, will gradually boost performance.
“We are in a tough moment, a tough situation, the toughest part of the year,” Alonso admitted. Yet he is optimistic that the team’s development trajectory will improve: “Throughout this season, I'm pretty sure that we will go better and better when the improvements come, when we fix some issues. Also with the power unit and all these kind of things.” Looking ahead, Alonso is convinced the second year of the Aston Martin-Honda project will be far better prepared and more competitive than their challenging debut season.
