In an electrifying display of speed and skill, Will Bamber shattered the competition during the opening practice for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America at the iconic Sebring International Raceway. The TR3 Racing ace roared to the top of the time charts, clocking an impressive lap time of 2:00.599 in his formidable No. 29 TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2. This blistering performance placed him a mere 0.008 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Danny Formal, who showcased his prowess in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing entry as the Pro-Am pace-setter.
The defending Pro class champion, Hampus Ericsson, who previously dominated Practice 1, settled for third overall, proving that the competition is fiercer than ever in the No. 1 WTR entry. Meanwhile, Colin Queen of ANSA Motorsports made his mark with the fourth-fastest time, while Brandon Gdovic rounded out the top five in his Precision Performance Motorsports Lamborghini. Johan Schwartz led the Am class for 89x Motorsports, while Topp Racing’s Rocky T Bolduc clinched the top spot in the LB Cup.
However, the sessions were not without drama. Practice 1 kicked off with all teams facing a drive-through penalty for “improper logistics protocol,” stemming from failures to comply with IMSA’s paddock load-in regulations. The tension escalated when both the No. 72 XONINE and No. 16 Alliance Lamborghinis suffered spins at Turn 16, and just moments later, Paul Whiting’s No. 74 SP Motorsports entry crashed into the Turn 1 barriers, bringing out a red flag with only 16 minutes remaining.
As the session resumed, chaos ensued with Christopher Tasca’s No. 95 Forty7 Motorsports Lamborghini going off course at Turn 15, followed by Clay Wilson’s No. 37 TR3 Racing Lamborghini spinning in Turn 14. The second practice session saw additional penalties imposed on the Nos. 12, 33, and 57 entries for premature track entry before technical inspections were completed.
With less than 15 minutes left in the second practice, the session halted again due to Christopher Kebbe’s No. 66 Forty7 Lamborghini coming to a stop in Turn 15. The restart saw multiple cars penalized with drive-throughs for various infractions, highlighting the intense pressure and stakes at play.
As anticipation builds, qualifying for the season’s opening races is set to kick off on Thursday at 11:55 a.m. EST, leading into Race 1 at 6:05 p.m. Fans can catch all the high-octane action live on Peacock, as well as on IMSA and Lamborghini’s YouTube channels. With the talent on display, this season promises to deliver thrilling moments and fierce rivalries that will keep motorsport enthusiasts on the edge of their seats.
