In a thrilling shake-up within the motorsport world, the renowned Ron Hartvelt has been announced as the new team principal of Nielsen Racing, a powerhouse in the European Le Mans Series. This pivotal appointment comes as the team sets its sights on ambitious goals that extend well beyond the current LMP3 and LMP2 categories, signaling a bold new direction for the squad.
Hartvelt's illustrious career in the motorsport arena has spanned decades, beginning in the 1990s with RML, where he honed his skills working on high-profile manufacturer programs like the Vauxhall Cavalier and Nissan Primera. His expertise in engineering was further showcased during the initial development of the iconic Saleen S7-R GT, a project that laid the groundwork for his entry into the high-octane world of Formula 1, where he contributed during the formative years of the Red Bull Racing team.
More recently, Hartvelt has made significant strides with Cyan Racing, steering their Volvo and Lynk & Co efforts in the World Touring Car and TCR series. His innovative spirit continued to shine through his ventures with One Group Engineering, where he led various groundbreaking projects.
Having first collaborated with Nielsen Racing last year, Hartvelt has now ascended to the role of team principal, just as Nielsen announces an exhilarating expansion plan. The team will introduce two Duqueine D09 Toyota LMP3 machines into the Michelin Le Mans Cup, complementing their existing Oreca 07 Gibson LMP2 entries in the European Le Mans Series.
