Charles Leclerc sets sights on Le Mans victory, leaving Ferrari F1 ambitions behind

Charles Leclerc, the talented Ferrari F1 driver, has ignited excitement among motorsport fans by expressing his aspiration to conquer the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. After a disheartening 2025 season in Formula 1, where he failed to clinch a single race win, Leclerc is now contemplating a pivot in his racing career. The SF-25 car proved to be a formidable adversary, hampering his attempts to compete against the likes of Mercedes, McLaren, and the formidable Max Verstappen. Despite these challenges, he notably outperformed his illustrious teammate, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, by a staggering 86 points in the championship standings.

Leclerc’s frustrations with Ferrari have been palpable, particularly in the closing weeks of the season, leading to swirling rumors regarding his future with the team. At 28, the Monegasque driver has yet to present a serious title challenge in his career, prompting him to seek alternative paths to glory. With Ferrari achieving remarkable success in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2025, Leclerc’s interest in the endurance racing scene has surged.

During the 2025 FIA prize-giving gala in Uzbekistan, Leclerc was candid about his aspirations when asked about racing in the WEC and possibly competing at Le Mans. He responded enthusiastically, stating, “Definitely. Actually quite a few times, now I need to find a way to try and combine Formula 1 and Le Mans because if I do something I want to do it to try and win and for that it needs preparation because the level is super high.” His determination to prepare adequately for this highly competitive event underlines his commitment to achieving success.

Ferrari’s resurgence in endurance racing has been nothing short of spectacular. In 2025, they celebrated their first WEC titles since 1972, with the number 51 car, driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, and former F1 star Antonio Giovinazzi, leading the charge. Furthermore, their victory at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans marked a triumphant return to the forefront of endurance racing, adding to their storied legacy.

However, Leclerc faces a challenge as Ferrari has confirmed their star driver lineup will remain intact for the 2026 season. Nevertheless, it is understood that he is not seeking a full-time seat in the WEC just yet. With Ferrari extending their commitment to the WEC until 2029, Leclerc has ample opportunity to explore this thrilling avenue in his racing journey. The prospect of Leclerc at Le Mans undoubtedly stirs the imagination of fans, who are eager to see if he can translate his undeniable skill into a victory at one of motorsport’s most prestigious events.
