In a thrilling development for motorsport enthusiasts, Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe’s vice-chairman Kazuki Nakajima has ignited speculation about potential new blood for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) by suggesting that rising stars Ben Barnicoat and Sacha Fenestraz could be in the running for a seat as early as 2027. This revelation follows their impressive performances during a recent rookie test in Bahrain, where both drivers took to the track in the formidable Toyota GR010 Hybrid.
Barnicoat, a standout in the Lexus IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, made waves during the test, marking his second time behind the wheel of the GR010 in a span of 18 months. His experience in the WEC this year with Akkodis ASP in the LMGT3 class adds to his credentials, showcasing his versatility and readiness for the challenge ahead.
