Liam Lawson’s audacious Abu Dhabi plan ignites Racing Bulls’ historic triumph

Liam Lawson has pulled back the curtain on his ambitious strategy for the season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, aiming to outpace both Aston Martin drivers as Racing Bulls set their sights on a coveted sixth place in the championship standings. However, the race proved to be a challenging battle for Lawson, marred by a five-second time penalty due to erratic driving that also cost him a point on his super license.

As the lights went out at the Yas Marina Circuit, Lawson fought valiantly against Lance Stroll in the early laps, but soon found himself unable to maintain pace, reflecting a broader struggle for Racing Bulls, who struggled to keep up with the midfield pack. This frustrating race saw Lawson ultimately cross the finish line in a disappointing 18th position. Yet, against the odds, Racing Bulls managed to secure sixth place in the constructors’ championship by a mere three points, a testament to the team’s perseverance throughout the season.

“It was just a tough race,” Lawson candidly shared with select media, including RacingNews365. “We didn’t really have the speed, and we also didn’t have a very good strategy. Just more focused on just trying to optimise P6, trying to save P6 in the constructors’ and trying to keep the Astons behind.” Lawson’s words encapsulate the grit and determination required to navigate the complexities of Formula 1 racing, even when the odds felt stacked against him.

Despite the individual struggles on the track, the achievement of securing sixth place in the standings is a significant milestone for Racing Bulls. This marks the team’s best result in the constructors’ championship since their previous finishes in sixth place in 2008, 2019, and 2021. Lawson expressed pride in this accomplishment, noting, “Yeah, it’s a great result for the team. It’s what we set out to do the last part of this year. So, very, very happy.”

As the season wraps up, Lawson’s reflections highlight not just the challenges faced but also the collective success of Racing Bulls, proving that even in the face of adversity, the team has managed to achieve its goals and set the stage for what lies ahead.
