Oscar Piastri, the rising star of Formula 1, has expressed his pride in his performance during the 2025 season, despite the bitter disappointment of losing out on the Drivers’ Championship. For a significant portion of the year, Piastri was viewed as the frontrunner, commanding a substantial 34-point lead as he entered the final stretch of the season. However, the tide turned dramatically as Lando Norris and Max Verstappen mounted impressive comebacks, ultimately pushing Piastri down to third place in the standings.
While the season concluded in heartbreak for the Australian driver, Piastri remains optimistic, recognizing the remarkable progress he has made since joining F1. His journey has been characterized by growth, with last year marking a pivotal moment as he clinched his first victory. This season, despite its disappointing finale, showcased his evolution as a driver.
After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Piastri spoke candidly to the media, highlighting the myriad positives he could draw from the season. “I mean, comparing different parts of different people’s careers is always difficult with different cars and stuff,” he acknowledged, reflecting on the challenges of the sport. “But I think definitely I can be very proud of the season I’ve had. When I look at this season compared to my first two years in F1, this year has been head and shoulders above the first two.”
The driver emphasized that while the outcome was not what he desired, the experiences gained throughout the season were invaluable. “Ultimately, whilst the end result is not quite what I wanted, there’s a lot of optimism and a lot of strength that I’ve gained from proving to myself what I can achieve through this season,” Piastri stated, showcasing his resilience and determination.
As he looks to the future, Piastri is eager to build on the lessons learned in 2025. “Those are the kinds of things that are not necessarily tied to results. So I think for me, I can definitely take that forward into the future. It’s only my third attempt at this in F1,” he said, hinting at his long-term ambitions in the sport. The McLaren driver is already setting his sights on the 2026 season, where he hopes to continue his upward trajectory while his teammate Norris defends his world title in the other McLaren car.
With a firm belief in his potential and a clear vision for improvement, Oscar Piastri is poised to make a significant impact in the coming seasons. His journey is just beginning, and the lessons learned from 2025 may well set the stage for a future filled with promise and success on the Formula 1 circuit.
